Susana's abstract and stylized horses are painted using acrylics and oils.  Her approach to paint is to create layers of paint, creating it's own underlying history.  The line defining the horses has evolved into the essence of horse.  The contrast of the texture of paint on canvas overlaid with the stylized line of the horses creates an ethereal yet powerful image.

Paper Works

Susana Arias' paper works are made using organic fibers such as abaca, cotton and mulberry to create papers blends of different textures and thickness.  These paper works are created by layering the hand made papers with different fabrics and embedding them with clay objects. The textures of the paper, and fabric and the whimsical pieces of clay create the base for a drawing which Susana completes using acrylic paints, pencils, and pastels.
